Mud Season

Spring mist
drip-dribbles
pitter-patters
slip-splatters.

Crow caws.
Jay screams
warning wildlife
we’re near.

Bare ground.
Brown leaves.
Green ferns.
Icy trails.

Frozen lake:
Slick, calm.
How soon
ice out?

Overhead
geese call
announcing
Mud Season.
